Action verbs explained

 

  1. Pull: To use your hands to bring something towards you.
  2. Scrub: To clean something by rubbing it hard, usually with a brush.
  3. Sweep: To use a broom to clean the floor by moving it across the surface.
  4. Turn:  it means to change the direction or position of something.
  5. Skate: To glide over ice or a hard surface wearing skates.
  6. Push: To apply pressure on something to move it away from you.
  7. See: To use your eyes to notice or look at something.
  8. Paint: To apply colour to a surface using a brush.
  9. Paste: To stick something onto a surface using glue.
  10. Rake: To gather or smooth out something, like leaves, using a long-handled tool.
  11. Skip: To move by hopping on one foot and then the other.
  12. Swim: To move through water by moving your arms and legs.
  13. Walk: To move forward by putting one foot in front of the other.
  14. Sleep: To rest your body and mind, usually lying down with closed eyes.
  15. Set: To put something down in a specific place.
  16. Read: To look at and understand words in a book, paper, etc.
  17. Pick: To choose something or take something with your fingers.
  18. Sew: To join or repair something using a needle and thread.
  19. Swing: To move back and forth hanging from something, like a seat hanging by chains.
  20. Wash: To clean something using water and often soap.
  21. Slide: To move smoothly over a surface.
  22. Wave: To move your hand side to side as a greeting or to say goodbye.
  23. Take: To get something with your hands and hold it.
  24. Sneeze: To suddenly blow air out of your nose and mouth in an uncontrollable way.
  25. Plant: To put plants or seeds in the ground so they will grow.
  26. Ride: To sit on and control the movement of an animal or vehicle.
  27. Shout: To say something very loudly.
  28. Play: To have fun, often by doing activities or games.
  29. Row: To move a boat through water using oars (long poles with flat ends).
  30. Show: To let someone see something.
  31. Talk: To use your voice to say words.
  32. Wipe: To clean or dry something by rubbing its surface with something like a cloth.
  33. Spin: To turn around and around quickly.
  34. Tell: To give information to someone by speaking or writing.
  35. Work: To do a job or activity, usually to earn money.
  36. Point: To extend your finger towards something to show where it is.
  37. Run: To move quickly on your feet, faster than walking.
  38. Stand: To be on your feet in an upright position.
  39. Throw: To use your hand to send something through the air.
  40. Write: To use a pen or pencil to make letters or words.
  41. Pour: To make a liquid flow from a container.
  42. Ask: To say something to get information from someone.
  43. Bake: To cook food using an oven.
  44. Clap: To hit your hands together to show enjoyment or approval.
  45. Bite: To use your teeth to cut into something.
  46. Clean: To make something free of dirt or mess.
  47. Cut: To divide something into pieces using a knife or scissors.
  48. Dance: To move your body to music.
  49. Climb: To go up something, usually using your hands and feet.
  50. Bounce: To move up and down, like a ball does.
  51. Sing: To make musical sounds with your voice.
  52. Sit: To be in a position where your bottom is resting on a chair or other surface.
  53. Stop: To finish doing something or to make something finish.
  54. Tie: To fasten something with a knot.
  55. Sail: To travel on water in a boat with sails.
  56. Yawn: To open your mouth wide and take a deep breath, usually when you're tired.
  57. Come: To move or travel towards the speaker or to a specified place.
  58. Go: To move or travel away from the speaker or to another place.
  59. Carry: To hold something and take it from one place to another.
